Learn how to quickly and securely attach the Mandible Vertical MOLLE Strap to your MOLLE/PALS belt for a low-profile, adjustable pouch setup.
Quick answer
Weave the Mandible Vertical MOLLE Strap through your pouch's MOLLE/PALS slots, then hook the extruded hook-and-loop ends onto your outer belt for a secure, adjustable attachment.
Why use Mandible Straps instead of traditional weaves?
Traditional MOLLE/PALS attachment requires threading a long strap through multiple rows of webbing, which can be slow and difficult to adjust. The Mandible Vertical MOLLE Strap uses a proprietary extruded hook-and-loop closure that lets you attach pouches faster and reposition them without unthreading the entire strap. The trade-off is that the hook-and-loop surface must stay clean and free of debris to maintain grip over time.
What you need before you start
You will need a MOLLE/PALS-compatible outer belt (1.5" to 2.0" wide), a pouch with standard MOLLE/PALS slots, and the Mandible Vertical MOLLE Strap 2-Pack. The straps are reusable and work with most belt-mounted pouches, but they are designed specifically for vertical attachment on outer belts, not for horizontal or panel mounting.
Step-by-step attachment guide
- 1. Position the pouch on your belt: Place your pouch at the desired height on your outer belt, aligning its MOLLE/PALS slots with the belt webbing. Make sure the belt is threaded through your pants loops or inner belt before attaching pouches. Check that the belt is already secured to your waist – attaching pouches first can make threading the belt difficult.
- 2. Feed the Mandible Strap through the pouch slots: Take one Mandible Vertical MOLLE Strap and insert the hook-and-loop end through the top slot of your pouch, then out through the bottom slot. Repeat for each vertical column of slots you want to secure. Do not force the strap through a slot that is too tight – the extruded hook material should slide smoothly without tearing the webbing.
- 3. Wrap the strap around the belt and secure: Bring the strap behind the outer belt, then press the hook-and-loop end firmly onto the strap body to close. Ensure the strap is snug but not so tight that it deforms the pouch or belt. A common mistake is over-tightening, which can cause the hook material to lose grip or damage the belt webbing over time.
- 4. Test and adjust as needed: Give the pouch a firm tug to confirm it is secure. If it shifts, peel the strap open and reposition it slightly tighter. The Mandible Strap allows fine adjustments without removing the pouch completely. If the strap loosens during use, check for debris on the hook-and-loop surface – clean it with a soft brush to restore grip.
